Means of Success

Aksa Energy Group’s 90 MW Samli Wind Farm is currently Turkey’s biggest wind turbine park. In the beginning of this project, Aksa was working with an another company. For this company was not able to catch agreed schedule, Aksa signed a new contract with us. So failure of the other company was a great oppurtunity for us that could develop a new partnership.

When I was informed that I would be in charge for the execution of this project, first of all I collected every information avaliable about this project including contractual clauses. Only if you know your borders, you can outperform the expectations.

Competition on site was rough for both companies. I wanted to be a cut above our competitor. To be able to do that, I lend an ear to Nelson Boswell’s words: “Here is a simple but powerful rule: Always give people more than what they expect to get”. By taking these words into account, I opened an account on Twitter to be able to make our customer and my manager follow instant progresses through internet. This site was located on www.twitter.com/Proje . Probably this was the first time that instant progresses were broadcasted from a wind turbine site. Apart from that, I informed both my manager and our customers by daily reports. This report involved two main sections: summary section and detailed information section. In summary section, here were some critical details about progress of job, wind speeds and fuel levels. In detailed information section, every important details were indicated. I hope that our customer was pleased with these information channels. Because I know that no matter how hard I tried to cut above our competitor, as Kate Zabriskie indicated the customer’s perception was our reality.

On the other hand, I was trying to collect all available data from site and convert it to a meaningful one. I designated a critical and an ideal working time for each of our cranes and trailers on site and I tracked performance percentage on monthly basis. Not only I evaluated monthly supply performance of me as a head of project and our headquarter, but I also evaluated HSE performance. Only if you are aware of the facts, then you will be able to take control. So these information was very helpful for me in terms of designating an aim which causes to increase performance values.

But the real source that brought success in this project was the great communication and collaboration between our crew and the representatives of our customer in site. As Henry Ford indicated “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success”.
